Virgin Atlantic’s Seat Maps – Help Please!?

Virgin Atlantic operate 3 different kinds of 747-400’s. The 443, the 4Q8, and the 41R. (examples found at this link: http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?aircraft_genericsearch=Boeing+747-400+%28AL-1%29&airlinesearch=Virgin+Atlantic+Airways%7CVirgin+Nigeria+Airways+%28Virgin+Atlantic+Airways%29%7CMartinair+Holland+%28Virgin+Atlantic+Airways%29&countrysearch=&specialsearch=&daterange=&keywords=&range=&sort_order=&page_limit=120&thumbnails=&calccount=1368528&truecount=false&engine_version=6.0) On The site, the seat map section just says Seat config 1, 2 and 3. ( seen at this link: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/allaboutus/ourfleet/index.jsp) So which one’s which?
Any sencible answers are much appreciated.

The numbers 443, 4Q8, and 41R are not necessarily related to the seat configuration. The leading four means that it is a 747-400 series aircraft. The last two characters are a Boeing customer number and identify the airline that originally purchased the aircraft. The airline can configure and reconfigure the aircraft any way that it wants and they are commonly reconfigured by the new owner when they are sold or leased out.

43 means that it was originally built for Alitalia. Q8 is International Lease Finance Corporation. 1R is Virgin Atlantic. However, it is possible that a -43 and a -Q8 have the same configuration. Or, two -43’s could have two different configurations.

If you have booked your flights, you should be able to display the map for your flight and reserve your seats on Virgin Atlantic’s website. If not, you’ll have to call them and ask which configuration is assigned to the route that you plan to fly.
