Clearly identify 4 major aircraft components of any large commercial aircraft & supply safety testing method?
Testing method has to be different for each. For example to test the rudder for cracks an ultrasound or x-ray might be taken.
As a maintaince engineer, recommend appropiate inspection methodologies that can be implemented to overcome perceived or real deficiencies associated with visual inspection. (Large Commercial Aircraft – eg. Airbus A310 or Boeing 747)
Also if anyone knows what the material that the rudder is made out on an Airbus A310 and if possible an alternative material for this rudder.(ie to make the rudder stronger because in the past there have been some accidents involving the rudder’s strength – eg. Air Transat flight Flight 961)
Thankyou for your help in advance.
Compressor assembly borascope and NDI if necessary)
Prop or rotor assembly NDI inspection
Hydraulics Pressure test and systems charge
Gyros Pneumatics and Vacc pump seal test
Airframe Vibration Harmonics check with plane at high power to pinpoint frequency of vibration thereby pinpointing problemed ares (different frequency = different airframe structure/ engine component etc…problem)
Also rudders are traditionally aluminum alloy over some type of frame be it Tin/ or composite alloy. Titanium or fiberglass could be recommended but you also need to look at weight versus gain ratio and the fact that you cant lighten up the tail assembly too much or you throw off the whole weight and balance formula out the window for the aircraft. Sounds like you have homework that you need help with…
